For Spring Summer 2027, Kim Shui examines performance through nature, theater, fashion and everyday life. The collection looks at the ways clothing, gesture, proportion and physical presence communicate emotion and identity, with Peking Opera serving as a central source of inspiration.

SPRING SUMMER 2027

Kim Shui draws from the visual language and controlled gestures of Peking Opera, where movement carries specific emotional meaning. The collection focuses in particular on Lingzi, the extra-long pheasant tail feathers attached to performers’ headdresses. Performers use precise movements of the head and body to make the feathers wave, quiver and circle, using each action to intensify emotion and define character.

The designer translates this theatrical vocabulary through feathers, fringe, saturated color, sculptural headwear, draping, embroidery and exaggerated proportions. Long strands of fringe extend from the body and respond directly to movement, giving each look an additional physical presence. Feathers create similar effects, turning the garments into active elements that react to the wearer.

Nature provides another reference. Birds of paradise and peacocks use feathers, color and movement to attract attention and distinguish themselves. Kim Shui connects these natural displays with the visual language of theater, where controlled gestures and elaborate dress help communicate emotion and identity.

The collection develops these ideas through sheer lace, transparent fabrics, cutouts and ornament. These details create changing levels of concealment and exposure. Corseted bodices, structured collars, brocade and detailed embroidery introduce formality and control, bringing a ceremonial quality to the silhouettes.

Oversized headpieces push proportion further. Their scale allows the wearer to occupy more physical space, while their weight introduces ideas of balance, resilience and control. The woman carries that weight while maintaining confidence and grace, turning the headpiece into part of her posture and physical expression.

Kim Shui also alters traditional forms through exaggerated scale. Familiar shapes shift as volume, decoration and structure change their relationship to the body. Feathers extend beyond the silhouette, fringe reacts to motion and sculptural elements change the outline of each look.

New York provides another layer of inspiration. Kim Shui treats the city as a stage where the street becomes an everyday runway. People dress, pose and transform themselves through daily life, creating forms of personal performance outside formal theatrical spaces.

Through this perspective, references to Peking Opera and natural display enter a contemporary urban context. Dramatic proportions, feathers and ceremonial structures connect with the ways people build and present their image in the city.
