“Balmain’s 2017 Resort offering relies on a strong injection of color, reflecting the intense shades of the sea, sky and sand. Just like our recently shown Men’s collection, the designs were initially inspired by thoughts of bands of revelers chilling on exotic and beaches, hoping that the night never ends, yet anxious to witness the perfect sunrise.
As I immersed myself in that palette, inevitably my thoughts turned to the incredible legacy of Guy Bourdin and the bold spirit of the best ‘70s fashion editorials. Riffing on the uniquely sensual and confident style of the fashion icons that those photos immortalized—Bianca, Iman, Lauren and Verushka—this collection’s silhouette is both relaxed and body-conscious. Influences include both swimwear and classic tailleur and we rely on a host of fabrics, patterns and time-honored techniques, including macramé, crochet, classic tweed and woven knits.” – Olivier Rousteing
