Art directors and stylists Nsimba Valene Lontanga and Doru Loboka team up with fashion photographer Ofoe Amegavie for Under the Ghanian Sun editorial featuring model Leana Afia Apenteng.

As part of an industry where Africa is often romanticized through exotic portraits and safari scenes, reflecting a created perception, with pre-defined beauty standards when it comes down to portraying ‘black’ women in the fashion industry. The duo Nsmimba Valene Lontanga and Doru Loboka challenge the industries outdated perception by placing European designer fashion in an authentic setting. The editorial series present a pure, raw and daily reality in Accra, missioned to show beauty in places where others see nothing. Real Africa without conforming to a romanticized ideal or western standard. The duo explains; “this is an era where people will have to take Africans as they are.” – from the photographers
