AUTUMN WINTER 2018 RUNWAYS
Taiwanese society once said that scooters are a symbol of backwardness and a product of the old times. It is considered a source of air pollution, noise, and affects the cityscape. However, it is also an important factor in maintaining a smooth ground traffic cycle in this fast-moving world. In Taiwanese society, a scooter is a cheap vehicle and a tool you use during the transitional period until your living condition has been fully fulfilled. Therefore, a scooter will accompany its rider during the toughest moments in life, and provide motivations to face the real world. In addition to make laborers more independent, it also drives social, cultural, artistic, and political progresses. Scooter is also known as “flesh over metal” in Taiwanese society. Scooters have become part of our bodies in this real world. White-collar workers, couriers, newspaper delivery men, gas delivery men, postmen, full-time parents, and all other hardworking laborers have all endured sand and gravel staining their clothes, or wind and rain hitting their faces. They must even face high risk of traffic accidents. Their bodies have already transcended from the pain just for earning some money to improve their lives. Therefore, what these people are riding is a turning point and a dream. The day will come, when they ride on street, the surrounding will be no longer buildings, walls and dust. – from Angus Chiang
