Spring Summer 2020 Womenswear

“This show, like that show [spring/summer 2001] is a celebration of life, joy, equality, individuality, optimism, happiness, indulgence, dreams and a future unwritten as we continue to learn from our past and the history of fashion—exploring iconic images of the designers we love, forever catalogued, maintained and retained. Not from a computer or a cloud or the transient archives of the internet but from our natural mother boards, data centers and memory banks— our brains. From the genius of Karl, the cheerful and bright-eyed positivity of Doris Day, the incomparable timeless style of Lee Radziwill to the effortless coolness of Anita Pallenberg that endures a half century later among the endless sea of digital influencers.

From late nights binge-streaming television programs depicting times past, present and future, inspiration draws from the thoughtful and accurately executed set design of fosse/verdon; the boundary-pushing, brilliantly cast and hyper-stylized, euphoria, so acutely portraying what it means to be a young person today and the poignant depiction of a not-so-distant future; and year and years where the comforts of tradition may be all there is to grasp to, as the narrative of a dystopian society plays out. As with closely guarded tradition, tonight is our reminder of the joy in dressing up, our unadulterated love of fashion and embracing grand gestures of unbridled expressions, reactions, ideas and possibilities.“
