Italian fashion brand GCDS and food company Barilla, teamed up for GCDS x BARILLA capsule collection. Fashion photographer and director Nadia Lee Cohen captured GCDS x BARILLA‘s Dinner’s Ready campaign featuring the legendary actress Sophia Loren.
The campaign was inspired by the 1960’s technicolor back lots from the films of Douglas Sirk and Alfred Hitchcock. In charge of styling was Anna Trevelyan, with beauty from hair stylist Sami Knight , makeup artist Adam Burrell, and manicurist Yoko Sakakura.
“Imagine two examples of the of “Made in Italy” excellence, each with their respective rich histories, and yet both presenting a new path leading to right where we are today. ‘A completely white canvas was offered to me by Guido Barilla in our first meeting,’ says GCDS’ Creative Director Giuliano Calza. ‘What started as a capsule collection, eventually ended up in Hollywood studios, with our teams filming for three days on Los Angeles sets transformed to dinner settings.’
‘I just imagined my personal dinner table, exactly like my life today with GCDS, made of enthusiastic and unexpected meetings as part of a daily routine’, a ray of Made-In-Italy light, that the audience will be able to follow through the subway itinerary that both Sophia and Giuliano started it Naples, now heading to Hollywood.
‘When I had to imagine who to choose for this cameo, from anyone in the entire world, I literally couldn’t think of anyone else but her: Sophia represents THE icon of Italian history, the ‘mother of Italy’ that greets her different family members, with just one simple message that everyone growing up as an Italian has heard over and over: ‘Dinner’s ready! E’ pronto!'”
