British Vogue‘s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful commissioned 14 special landscapes covers for magazine’s August 2020 Reset edition captured by artists and photographers such as David Hockney, Nadine Ijewere, Tim Walker, Nick Knight and Lubaina Himid to name a few.
The first cover Vogue UK presented was David Hockney‘s painting – his personal view of East Yorkshire. The second cover is work of fashion photographer Nadine Ijewere who captured Isle of Skye.
“That is what this issue is all about: reset. It starts with 14 special covers – a first project of its kind for Vogue. It has been a major theme of these past months that our eyes have turned to nature as a steadying force amid the chaos, and so I am delighted to bring you a story for which some of Britain’s greatest living image-makers – from photographers David Sims and Nadine Ijewere, to artists Lubaina Himid and David Hockney – present new and original landscapes captured around the country.” – Edward Enninful
In addition to the landscapes, Fashion Photographer Tim Walker has created his own cover: “It depicts small white blossoms pushing through a grey concrete wall, an extraordinarily joyful sense of nature’s dominium within urban constraints. It is dedicated to Kumar, and was inspired by a text Walker was sent by the 83-year-old editor, a fascinating insight into how “living in harmony with nature is the very first lesson we, humans, collectively, need to learn from this crisis”
