Discover ERDEM‘s Spring Summer 2021 collection, that was inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1992 historical novel The Volcano Lover, and it’s heroine Emma Hamilton, presented during the ongoing London Fashion Week. The novel is set in Naples, and it follows the story of Emma Hamilton, her marriage to Sir William Hamilton, her affair with Lord Nelson, and her descent into poverty. Designer Erdem Moralioglu refuses the idea that women are going to stop dressing up, and instead with his SS21 collection Erdem brings the beauty and hope in this uncertain times.
“Erdem’s collection for Spring Summer 2021 visits Emma Hamilton at the court of Naples through Sontag’s lens and pen. She is a character of great gumption, who started life as the daughter of a Cheshire blacksmith and rose to become a powerful political player. In the shadow of the volcano, she is a force to be reckoned with. Unrelenting in the face of adversity, she carved opportunity out of misfortune, purpose from insecurity, passion from chaos. How might we do likewise? History is punctuated with explosive events that force change. Life erupts. Though our futures remain uncertain, there is comfort to be found in the sheer vitality of human kind.” – from Erdem
