Discover bespoke costumes created by Burberry’s Chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci for the new opera 7 Deaths of Maria Callas by Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovic. Inspired by one of the most renowned and influential opera singers, the project combines the elements of video with performance art and music. Every piece has been designed exclusively for each chapter of the opera, performed at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.

7 Deaths of Maria Callas is a culmination of an obsession with Callas, the artist has had since she was 14 years old. The performance will include seven famous arias associated with Callas and music composed by Marko Nikodijevic, with each aria accompanied by a short film.

In this conceptual and dynamic homage to the iconic singer, Marina Abramovic recreates seven iconic deaths from Callas’ most important roles throughout her career, followed by an interpretive recreation of Callas’ actual death played by Abramovic on stage.
