Luxury leather goods house MCM enlists German artist Johannes Wohnseifer to create a DJ case, as part of the brand’s König Souvenir limited editions. Johannes Wohnseifer x MCM Edition DJ case fuses classical elegance on the exterior with futurism on the interior. The König Souvenir I Johannes Wohnseifer I MCM Edition premiered last week at Gallery Weekend Berlin, and will also be presented at Frieze in Seoul this September.

“The interior of the case is lined with mirrored leather and orange mesh. As a reference to the brand’s flagship store, an inner lid picks up the façade of the MCM building in Seoul. Wohnseifer additionally picks up the shapes of the windows in his cover design for a vinyl record included in the case. It contains an unreleased track by the DJ duo and friends of the artist, Schaeben & Voss. Two artworks by Wohnseifer are part of the selection. The first is a unique aluminium painting, which the artist exclusively created for this collaboration, in individual combinations of different shapes and colours. The second included is a Diasec print limited edition of a photographic collage by Wohnseifer. It is based on a car spotter’s picture of a luxury car in New York, printed with the MCM monogram. As a new addition to the MCM Zoo, Wohnseifer has designed a leather toy giraffe. The artist specifically opted for the oracular animal of Greek mythology to represent the gaze into the future, while a poster with motifs from the earliest MCM catalogues captures impressions from the brand’s history. Finally, a metal card in a red and silver MCM leather case indicates the edition number of the DJ case.” – from MCM
