While it is great to keep up with the recent fashion trends, having the essentials ready to go in your wardrobe is always a good idea. Here are a few things every summer wardrobe needs.
No summer wardrobe is complete without a one-piece. Not only are these essential as swimwear, but they can also be worn as a bodysuit with jeans, a skirt or shorts. You know it’s officially summer when the one piece takes a trip out of the closet!
Plain White T
This is not the most exciting item of clothing, but a plain white T is one of the most versatile tops you can own. They can be worn alone with jeans, shorts or a skirt for a casual summer look. Or wear it as a layered piece under a dress or vest. Bling it up with some signature jewellery and some classy heels, you’ve got yourself a real show-stopper summer night out look.
Sandals and Flip Flops
No wardrobe is ready for summer without great footwear. There are some beautiful strappy sandal styles around in an array of colours. Choose a block heel instead of a kitten for day trips and picnic days. Investing in some comfortable, classic flip flops is also essential for the summer. These can be worn with pretty much anything and they fit nicely in your bag if you need a quick change out of your heels.
The Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses are my absolute favourite summer wardrobe essential as they offer timeless glamour for most occasions. They also lend themselves well to layering with T-shirts, light sweaters, and shirts. More biker chick than glamour puss? Maxi dresses look great with boots and a jacket!
Summer is an opportunity to give your skinny jeans a rest and go for a baggier, more relaxed look. Boyfriend jeans represent effortless casual style for pretty much all shapes and sizes. Go for a light denim as opposed to dark or black for versatility with the rest of your summer wardrobe.
Is there anything more versatile, comfortable and cool than an oversized cotton shirt? Wear it over pretty much anything as an extra layer for cooler days and evenings. Wear it with shorts, skirts, dresses and jeans. Boots, flip flops, heels or sneakers (there are some amazing Nike Air Max styles to choose from!) . The oversized shirt goes with it all!
OK I’ll admit, hats aren’t for everyone. I personally look ridiculous in hats. So, if you are one of those people who makes hats rock, invest in an oversized straw hat. Not only do they look oh so glamorous with a 50s movie star vibe, but they also provide excellent sun protection.
Longer days and warmer weather are the perfect recipe for spontaneity. And spontaneity requires a large Tote bag! Fit a change of clothes, shoes, water bottle, swimwear, notebooks and even a speaker for an impromptu park picnic with friends! Get one in a gloriously bright colour like this beautiful orange from NA-KD.
Invest in the essentials…
And the rest of your summer wardrobe will take care of itself! Enjoy your summer looking and feeling fabulous. And although it’s not on the list – remember your sunscreen!
