Toronto-based fashion brand MR. SATURDAY presented its Fall Winter 2023.24 Collection, that explores the history of the legendary Parisian nightclub Les Bains Douches, on January 21st, during the recently finished Paris Fashion Week. The underground club that celebrated freedom, sexual liberation, and creative expression, had profound impact on Parisian nightlife and culture during period known as the “Golden Age” (1970s & 1980s). The collection features 26 ready-to-wear looks, both menswear and womenswear. It reimagines the nightlife glamour in a modern way. For the season designer Joey Gollish explores themes of fluidity and gender roles, with oversized, unstructured silhouettes, tailoring, vintage and vintage-inspired specialty fabrics, patchwork applications, and historical references relayed through graphics.
FALL WINTER 2023.24 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS
Beyond being an untouchable haven in the Golden Age of Paris (and global) nightlife, Les Bains Douches also represents something very important to my work: an arena for free flowing and spontaneous acts of creation – hosting everything from impromptu performances by Prince, to a live album by Joy Division, to early shows by a (then) unknown Depeche Mode. Les Bains Douches at 7 Rue du Bourg l’Abbé, since its construction, has acted as an incubator for creatives that went on to inspire generations of creatives to come. – Joey Gollish
“Key ready-to-wear pieces include a black calfskin leather trucker jacket and matching track pants complete with shearling lining and shearling peekaboo stripe accents, an amber brown jacket made from shearling that has been electrified to give off an ultra-soft fur look, an oversized cotton balloon pant in both navy and black with a cinched waist and adjustable drawstrings at the ankle, a gray wool overcoat with fur shawl detailing, a dyed silk club poster with original Le Bains Douches graphics, a tailored black wool overcoat with silk lining, a pleated zip wide leg gray wool trouser, a black leather padded zip-up jacket, a reverse hooded puffer down jacket made from parachute nylon, and a range of both traditional and avant-garde knitwear pieces made from Italian merino wool.” – from Mr. Saturday
