Sacai‘s collaboration with Moncler, launched in conjunction with Moncler’s 70th anniversary in 2022, represents a fusion of visionary minds and creativity. Under the direction of Chitose Abe, the collaboration reimagines Moncler’s future by connecting the brand’s rich seven-decade history with a forward-looking approach.
The Moncler x Sacai collection draws inspiration from Moncler’s brand evolution. The collection consists of four intricately layered looks, each crafted to equip wearers for a range of experiences, from adventures in nature to city living.
This collection merges Sacai’s hybrid-inflected Japanese aesthetic with Moncler’s spirit of outdoor mountaineering. It represents a harmonious blend of the tailored and formal with the practical, and the feminine with the pragmatic. The pieces within the collection are designed to be attached to one another, allowing for the creation of new shapes and functionalities.
The collection features two complete looks for men and two for women, in color palettes ranging from total black to shades of off-white and ecru. Each ensemble is a multi-piece creation that can be reconfigured: jackets transform into boilersuits with a simple attachment to trousers, and zippers can be flipped to convert puffers into capes.
A recurring theme in the collection is clothing that doubles as an accessory. For instance, internal straps transform a down jacket into a wearable backpack. This detail is also integrated into more formal pieces, such as suits, where a jacket and blazer can reveal a pleated dress beneath, mixing feminine elegance with utility.
Key elements of the collection include suit jackets, both long and cropped puffers, teddy vests, functional bibs, convertible trousers, and pleated dresses. These pieces playfully blend a mountain ethos with an urban sensibility.
