From January 6th to February 25th, the independent record store Dizonord brings its unique cultural mix to Le Marais in Paris through a pop-up collaboration with the fashion house Courrèges. Known for its distinctive collection of records, books, and vintage objects, Dizonord, which originated in Paris and Marseille, serves as a haven for music enthusiasts and cultural explorers. It’s a place where rare and ephemeral documents related to niche, pop, or underground music, and lesser-known cultural facts are archived and sold. Established in Paris’ 18th arrondissement in February 2019 by Vincent Privat and Xavier Ehretsmann, Dizonord – or ‘Disquaire de la Zone Nord’ – has rapidly become a beacon for Parisian music aficionados. More than a mere record shop, it’s a multifaceted entity offering media from the 90s-2000s, including K7s, CDs, VHS tapes, books, and fanzines. The store extends its influence beyond retail, engaging in various cultural projects through exhibitions, concerts, and events.
The Dizonord and Courrèges pop-up is an exceptional blend of both music and fashion, curated collaboratively by Dizonord and Nicolas Di Felice, Courrèges’ Creative Director. This hybrid store showcases a specially selected collection of musical works, with a focus on electronic and experimental genres, alongside a diverse range of printed objects. These include pieces on rave culture, counterculture, fashion, LGBTQIA+ cultures, and more, featuring vintage party flyers, rare books, and original photographic prints. This collaboration also celebrates the reissue of Julia von Dorpp’s ‘Ex-Tracts’ and ‘Bad Boy Zine’, among other iconic publications. Nicolas Di Felice, with his background rooted in Belgium’s vibrant 90s-2000s rave scene, brings a personal touch to the project, integrating his experiences and influences into this unique venture. The store not only represents a fusion of music and fashion but also showcases photographic works by Spyros Rennt and Cha Gonzalez, reflecting the intimate and dynamic aspects of nightlife and queer identity.
In celebration of this momentous occasion, the Courrèges House has supported the reissue of an edition of 200 copies of Julia von Dorpp’s book ‘Ex-Tracts’ regrouping English rave flyers as well as an exclusive re-edition of ‘Bad Boy Zine’. Among the other of publications are featured iconic books such as Seana Gavin’s ‘Spiralled’, Vinca Petersen’s ‘No System’ & ‘Future Fantasy’ and Gabber Eleganza’s ‘Archivio’. A selection of underground, cross-cultural magazines expand on the project’s polyphonous ambitions, including ‘Feu’, ‘Viscose’, ‘Trou Noir’ and a long-spanning collection of ‘Double Magazine’ back issues.
