Marco De Vincenzo, creative director of Etro, draws upon the historical layers of fabric patterns as his navigational stars, eschewing traditional travel plans for a more introspective journey through the brand’s rich heritage. It’s a voyage that seeks to uncover something deeply personal within the sedimentation of Etro’s past, guided by a singular desire to articulate a unique perspective.
The collection itself is an exploration of texture, pattern, and movement, mirroring the tumultuous voyage of Ulysses through the straits of Messina, caught between Scylla and Charybdis. The wind ruffles through hair and stirs the lightweight layers, skirts, and scarves that envelop the body, echoing the dynamic interplay between the elements and the traveler. Coats and jackets stand in stark contrast, their structured lines offering shelter and solidity amidst the fluid chaos.
Prints are meticulously placed – foils on felt, stencils on leather – transforming traditional materials with innovative techniques. Paisley is reimagined as a knit stitch turned inside out, while lush upholstery fabrics are tailored into chic, compact jackets. In collaboration with Wolford, jacquards are crafted into body stockings, bringing intricate patterns directly onto the skin, serving as a second skin that blurs the line between fragility and strength.
