The Balenciaga Fall Winter 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection marks an exploration of the boundary between tradition and innovation, paying homage to Cristóbal Balenciaga’s legacy while following the well known contemporary design principles of the brand. This collection stands out for its daring reinterpretation of classic forms, particularly through the introduction of “hip-aulette” construction in dresses, a creative inversion of traditional shoulder padding that shifts the focus to the hips, along with the use of maxi faux-fur coats treated with resin for an aged effect and raw-cut hems.
Balenciaga‘s commitment to innovative repurposing can be seen in its upcycled creations. From transforming Balenciaga dust bags, backpacks, and nylon gym bags into high-fashion tops, skirts, and dresses, to the crafting of suspended garment dresses out of a variety of repurposed wardrobe staples, the collection has an eco-conscious mindset.
Balenciaga Fall Winter 2024 collection showed face-shield eyewear like 24/7 mask, hands-free phone holders, and over-stonewashed, super-minimal all-day leather bags that all follow a futuristic vision that remains rooted in practicality. The innovative use of materials is also evident in accessories, such as upcycled deadstock for biker glove clutches and bags, alongside the introduction of deconstructed superlight flat derby shoes and Essex knee-high boots.
The presentation of the collection at Les Invalides under a dynamic set of screens tracking a narrative timeline from morning to night across natural and electronic landscapes was a spectacle in itself. The immersive experience, set to a soundtrack of high-energy rhythms and hypnotic melodies by BFRND.
