Recently, NewJeans was featured in 2024 Billboard Women in Music issue. In a revealing interview with Billboard, NewJeans shared their thoughts and feelings on their achievements, including winning Artist of the Year and Song of the Year at the Melon Music Awards and MAMA Awards. Hanni described the experience as “surreal” and emphasized the group’s gratitude towards everyone who contributed to their music and content. Danielle echoed this sentiment, highlighting the joy and honor they feel in sharing their music with fans.
Despite their relatively small discography, NewJeans has made a significant impact with hits like “Ditto.” Danielle shared that the group instantly connected with their songs, aiming to transmit healing and positive energy through their music. The members expressed their appreciation for their CEO, Min Hee Jin, founder of ADOR and a notable female figure in the industry, for her inspirational and motherly guidance.
Addressing the shifting dynamics in K-pop fandom, where historically women artists faced challenges building core fandoms, Minji suggested that the expanding K-pop market and the group’s approach to performing music they love have helped garner early support from fans. The group also noted the role of digital platforms in facilitating communication with their audience.
NewJeans acknowledged their influence on the K-pop genre, steering it towards more easy-listening music, a direction encouraged by their CEO to create universally enjoyable music. Looking to the future, the members expressed desires to create emotionally resonant music, leave a lasting legacy, and remain true to themselves while exploring new experiences and learning.
