In the world of fashion, accessories play a pivotal role in expressing individuality and enhancing personal style. Combining eyeglasses with jewelry requires a thoughtful approach to ensure harmony and balance in your overall look. Whether you prefer bold statement pieces or subtle, elegant jewelry, mastering the art of styling with eyeglasses can elevate your ensemble and highlight your unique flair.

Eyeglasses, once considered utilitarian, are now crucial accessories capable of elevating one’s overall style.

In fact, many celebrities look better with glasses, from Robert Downey Jr. with his iconic tinted glasses to Zoe Saldana, who enjoyed a range of spectacles during her LensCrafters ad campaign. Pairing jewelry with eyeglasses can be a trickier task, but it isn’t impossible. Consider Maisie Williams, who used gold asymmetrical hoops to complement the gold accents on her burgundy frames for an understated yet effective look.

In this article, we will explore tips and ideas to effortlessly integrate jewelry with your eyeglasses, allowing you to shine with confidence and style.

Jewellery styling do’s

The key to styling is harmonizing your eyewear and jewelry, ensuring they work together rather than competing for attention. Here are two tips for easy harmonization.

Recognize your face shape

Styling eyewear and jewelry individually can both be guided by your face shape and use the same straightforward principles. You’ll see that angular eye glasses frames like square or rectangular shapes can add definition to round faces. Models such as the Versace V3347 are a great example of an angular frame suitable for a round face shape. Individuals with square face shapes can soften their features with round or oval frames, such as the Ray-Ban Optics models. Round earrings, like our Etrusca Sunburst Hoops, or long necklaces, like our Carmen Mixed Pearl Chain Necklace, can highlight the angular lines of your frames. On the other hand, our delicate and flowing drop earrings or layering necklaces can enhance the softer lines of round and oval frames.

Decide between minimalism and maximalism

Eyeglasses demand careful consideration, especially regarding how much jewelry to wear. Are you aiming for a minimalist or maximalist look? The choice largely depends on the style of your eyewear. If your frames are bold and distinctive, such as oversized cat-eye glasses, you might want to lean towards minimalism with subtle jewelry choices. A delicate pair of stud earrings or a slim gemstone bangle can complement the eyewear without overwhelming your face. Conversely, you can go maximalist with your jewelry if your eyeglasses are more understated, like thin wire frames.

Jewellery styling don’t’s

Each wearable element must contribute to your overall aesthetic without overshadowing the other. A quick assessment of size and color can help.

Clashing sizes

Overlapping can create a cluttered and visually confusing effect. So, immediately steer clear of jewelry pieces that directly clash with the frames of your eyeglasses. For example, if you’re wearing oversized or geometric frames, avoid large hoop earrings that might intersect with the edges of the frames. Instead, choose jewelry that respects the negative space around your eyeglasses, allowing both elements to coexist harmoniously. This approach ensures that each accessory can shine independently without causing visual chaos.

Clashing colours

It’s important to look beyond surface hues and towards underlying tones. If your eyeglass frames have warm tones, like tortoiseshell or brown, opt for gold or earth-toned jewelry. Similarly, cool-toned frames, such as silver or blue, can be paired with white gold or silver jewelry for a harmonious ensemble.

If you want to highlight the brighter colors, take inspiration from style icon Meryl Streep, whose stunning blue dress, black jeweled belt, and purple-tinted sunglasses pair elegantly with gold and blue hoop earrings. You can easily recreate this look with our Gabriela Large Hoop or Siona Teardrop Hoop for a striking yet cohesive appearance. Otherwise, when in doubt, stick to neutrals or classic metal tones that can effortlessly complement any eyeglass frame color. Remember, balance is key. Striking that balance between your eyeglasses and jewelry ensures a thoughtfully curated outfit.
