Lanvin, France’s longest-running couture house, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Peter Copping as its new Artistic Director. Founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin, the prestigious maison will see Copping lead the creative direction for both womenswear and menswear starting September 2024.
Peter Copping, a British designer with a distinguished background, brings a wealth of experience to Lanvin. A graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London, Copping began his career at Sonia Rykiel. He later spent over ten years at Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs, heading the womenswear division. His journey continued as the Creative Director at Nina Ricci in Paris and Oscar de la Renta in New York, where he was handpicked by Mr. de la Renta as his successor. Most recently, Copping was at Balenciaga, where he revitalized the couture collection and led VIP and Special Projects.
Copping’s extensive expertise across various fashion capitals and his technical mastery make him an exceptional fit for Lanvin. His vision aligns with Lanvin’s ongoing transformation, which emphasizes a contemporary blend of radical chic and classic French elegance.
“Peter Copping’s arrival at Lanvin is an important milestone in the renaissance of one of the great French maisons. I am confident that with Peter’s vision and technical rigor and the continued perseverance of our teams globally, we will identify a new frontier in fashion and deliver beauty and results in equal measure,” said Siddhartha Shukla, Deputy CEO of Lanvin.
Reflecting on his appointment, Copping said, “Jeanne Lanvin was a visionary of her time whose interests and passions extended far beyond fashion, as do my own. I am extremely honoured to have been chosen as Artistic Director of Lanvin and to be able, along with the atelier and teams, to write the next chapter for this iconic house.“
Eric Chan, CEO of Lanvin Group, expressed his enthusiasm: “Lanvin Group is delighted to welcome Peter Copping to Lanvin. I am certain that Peter’s outstanding talent and capacity to reinterpret the codes of the maison with curiosity and innovation make him the ideal candidate to drive success for Lanvin. This new chapter for the house fits perfectly with our commitment to meeting the evolving needs and desires of our clients.“
Zhen Huang, Chairman of Lanvin Group, added, “With 135 years of heritage, Lanvin boasts an exceptionally rich history and is one of the most celebrated names in fashion worldwide. As Lanvin Group’s flagship brand, Lanvin is an integral part of our family. With the nomination of Peter Copping, we look forward to the maison’s continued transformation and growth.“
