Viktor&Rolf‘s Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2024/2025 collection stands out for its audacious embrace of absurdism. Titled “Haute Abstraction,” the collection showcases sculptural garments that push the limits of silhouette design. This season’s pieces are a nod to Viktor&Rolf’s iconic F/W 1998 ‘Atomic Bomb‘ collection, reimagined with a heightened sense of abstraction. Over 26 years, their approach to the couture silhouette has evolved, becoming increasingly abstract and experimental. The human body serves as a canvas intersected by geometric shapes—cubes, triangles, and spheres—reflecting influences from constructivism and cubism as well as playful childhood block sets.

The collection creates a new, abstract ‘body,’ where garments adapt to and celebrate these geometric forms. Panniers, shoulder pads, collars, and necklines are transformed into architectural elements, each piece a standalone work of art. The use of geometric shapes not only defines the silhouettes but also inspires a fresh, avant-garde approach to fashion. The designs are vibrant and spontaneous, with contrasting colors and prints giving autonomy to each element within these ensembles. This season’s creations blend clothing with abstraction, inviting viewers to step away from the conventional.

The presentation’s soundtrack, featuring a human voice vocalizing monosyllables, enhances the abstract atmosphere. The enigmatic nature of the sounds complements the visual spectacle, creating an immersive experience that challenges traditional fashion narratives. This auditory element underscores the collection’s theme of abstraction, adding a layer of mystery to the show. The fabrics are luxurious, and the artworks are bold and graphic, contributing to a rich, colorful aesthetic that is more vibrant than ever before.

Each look is finished with custom Christian Louboutin heels in colored satin, reflecting the fabrics and colors of the garments. The addition of polka dot tights by Falke further enhances the abstract constructions, creating a cohesive and visually striking runway presentation. The meticulous attention to detail in the accessories underscores Viktor&Rolf’s commitment to creating a fully immersive and cohesive fashion experience. The playful yet sophisticated elements come together to form a collection that is both thought-provoking and visually captivating.

The Viktor&Rolf Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2024/2025 collection is an example of the designers’ ability to merge art with fashion . By drawing inspiration from their own historical designs and infusing them with contemporary abstract elements, they have created a collection that is both a homage to the past and a bold step into the future. This season’s offerings challenge traditional notions of couture, presenting garments that are as much about form and structure as they are about fabric and fit.

“Haute Abstraction” is a celebration of Viktor&Rolf’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of fashion design. The collection’s sculptural garments, vibrant colors, and innovative use of geometric shapes reflect a desire to explore and redefine the couture silhouette. It is a bold statement that encourages viewers to embrace the absurd and find beauty in the unconventional.
