Grounds SS25 collection, “INTERRUPTER,” was not only a presentation of bold footwear but also an homage to the subcultures of Tokyo. The voluminous outsoles that have become synonymous with the brand draw inspiration from the underground scene, where exaggerated forms and rebellious aesthetics first took root in anime and subcultural movements. These elements have gradually made their way into mainstream fashion, evolving into an aesthetic that embraces contrasts. With “INTERRUPTER,” grounds returned to these roots, amplifying their signature platforms while pushing their design language further.

The collection’s name, “INTERRUPTER,” reflects both the brand’s disruptive approach and the symbolic beginning of its debut in Paris, an important milestone for grounds. By reintroducing its core ethos to a new audience, the brand maintained its outsider status, standing out among the layers of fashion history in the city while creating a dialogue between the established and the avant-garde. This clash of cultures, aesthetics, and history was embodied in each piece, creating an atmosphere of vibrant tension that underpinned the show.

One of the season’s highlights was the introduction of three new outsoles—SKYSCRAPER, CRYSTAL, and JOG VISION—each with its own distinct character. The SKYSCRAPER, an 8cm platform, evoked a futuristic and airy sensation with its foamy design. The CRYSTAL, in contrast, featured an audaciously oversized sole, serving as a literal street-stopping moment. Meanwhile, the JOG VISION outsole, inspired by sports shoes, combined bright neon colors and high-tech materials for a functional yet fashion-forward look. These outsoles reflect grounds’ continued experimentation with footwear forms, pushing the boundaries of what shoes can do and how they can be perceived.

The “INTERRUPTER” collection also stayed true to the brand’s playful spirit, with oversized silhouettes that captivated the audience. The collection’s collaboration with London-based designer Sinead O’Dwyer added an additional layer of innovation to the collection. The result were designs that challenged traditional notions of beauty and function while celebrating individuality.

Held at the iconic Chez Omar in Le Marais, the presentation was more than just a runway show; it was a full sensory experience. Models moved between tables in the bustling couscous restaurant, giving guests an up-close view of the striking footwear. The blend of Moroccan culinary traditions with grounds’ avant-garde designs created an unexpected fusion of fashion and culture, reinforcing the theme of interruption that ran through the collection. The interactive nature of the event, with models casually joining diners on the terrace, broke down the traditional barriers between runway and audience, making it an intimate and memorable showcase.

As grounds continues to expand its footprint, both creatively and commercially, the SS25 collection “INTERRUPTER” marks a significant step forward for the brand. By going “back to basics” while simultaneously pushing the limits of what footwear can represent, grounds has solidified its place in the fashion world as a true innovator. This collection, with its bold designs and cultural connections, ensures that grounds will remain a disruptor on the global stage for seasons to come.
