Bottega Veneta has unveiled a collaboration with Italian lighting brand Flos, resulting in a special edition of Gino Sarfatti’s iconic Model 600 table lamp. The partnership bridges two Italian legacies, combining Bottega Veneta’s refined craftsmanship with Flos’ expertise in lighting design.
Born in Venice in 1912, Gino Sarfatti is celebrated as one of Italy’s most influential lighting designers. His career is marked by over 600 luminaire designs, each pushing the boundaries of material and form with an experimental approach. Sarfatti’s vision redefined traditional lighting, introducing new technologies and typologies that remain iconic today. In 1939, he founded Arteluce, a company dedicated to crafting innovative lighting solutions for large-scale projects, from Genoa’s Palazzo Bianco to Turin’s Teatro Regio. After Arteluce was sold to Flos in 1973, Sarfatti’s legacy continued to shape the future of lighting design.
The Model 600 table lamp, created by Sarfatti in 1966, coincided with the founding of Bottega Veneta in Vicenza. Sarfatti’s approach to the lamp paralleled Bottega Veneta’s philosophy, emphasizing flexibility and sophistication. The Model 600, with its flexible base made from lead shot pellets encased in smooth leather, reimagined how a lamp could function—moving beyond rigidity. This innovative design made it possible for the lamp to rest naturally on surfaces, while also offering adjustable light angles.
In this special collaboration, Bottega Veneta and Flos have reinterpreted the Model 600 with modern touches, yet stayed true to Sarfatti’s original vision. The leather base is now available in Bottega Veneta’s signature Intrecciato and Intreccio Foulard weaves, lending the piece a tactile quality synonymous with the brand’s renowned craftsmanship. The lamp’s core has also been updated with the latest LED technology, ensuring energy-efficient, long-lasting illumination while preserving the iconic bulb shape.
The reimagined Model 600 lamp is suitable for both table and floor use, adding versatility to its refined aesthetics. It provides soft, relaxing lighting with the ability to emit either direct or indirect light, depending on how the reflector is positioned. Available in both small and large editions, the lamp comes in a range of colorways including black, grey, red, emerald green, and Bottega Veneta’s signature green. The choice of colors ensures the lamp can fit into a variety of interiors, offering a touch of understated luxury.
By merging Sarfatti’s mid-century design with Bottega Veneta’s modern aesthetics, the new Model 600 reflects a timeless approach to functional art. It invites those with a discerning eye for design to appreciate both its rich history and contemporary relevance, making it a coveted addition to any space.
