Nike has unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic Air Force 1 Low: the “Virginia Union” edition. Crafted in collaboration with Dex Robinson, this bespoke pair pays homage to Virginia Union University (VUU), celebrating the institution’s rich heritage and the enduring spirit of its Panther mascot.

SNEAKERS

The standout feature of the “Virginia Union” Air Force 1 Low is undoubtedly its unique shaggy black upper, meticulously constructed from hair-on leather. This unconventional material choice not only adds a tactile dimension to the classic silhouette but also serves as a powerful nod to the strength and resilience embodied by VUU’s Panther mascot. The sleek black base is contrasted beautifully by the steel-outlined Swoosh, which adds a modern edge to the traditional design.

Deep maroon accents punctuate the design, particularly noticeable on the laces, infusing the sneaker with a vibrant touch of school spirit. These rich red details enhance the overall look, making the shoes a perfect blend of understated elegance and bold statement. The heel tabs feature heartfelt messages like “Dear Union” and “With Love, Dex Rob,” personalizing each pair and reinforcing the sentimental connection between Dex Robinson and his alma mater.

The insoles showcase a printed letter from Dex Robinson, set against a silhouette of VUU’s campus sign, adding a layer of personalization and celebrating Panther pride. This attention to detail extends to the overall craftsmanship, ensuring that every aspect of the shoe reflects the collaboration’s dedication to quality and heritage.

This collaboration between Nike and Dex Robinson symbolizes the excellence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Robinson’s enduring legacy with Virginia Union University. By integrating elements that highlight VUU’s cultural and athletic spirit, the “Virginia Union” edition serves as a tribute to the university’s impact and the community it fosters.

Priced at an accessible $120 USD, the Nike Air Force 1 Low “Virginia Union” is available now at Nike retailers and online at nike.com. This makes it easy for fans of the brand, VUU alumni, and sneaker aficionados to add this meaningful and stylish pair to their collections.
