Nike Basketball is reportedly preparing to reintroduce the Kobe 9 Elite Low “Moonwalker” colorway, a design that has captured the imagination of sneaker enthusiasts since its original release in 2014. Drawing inspiration from Michael Jackson, the “Moonwalker” pairs bold tones of “Hyper Grape” and “Cave Purple” with crisp white accents, creating a colorway that stands out both on and off the court. This updated release is expected to arrive in Protro form.

Although no official images of the updated version have been released, sources suggest that this reissue will remain faithful to its original design, with modernized updates expected to improve its performance.

The “Moonwalker” release is just one of several planned for the Nike Kobe 9 Elite series in 2025. Nike Basketball has already hinted at the return of other iconic designs, including the low-top “Beethoven” and the high-top “Christmas” editions. This revival honors the legacy of Kobe Bryant. It also reintroduces a collection that reshaped basketball footwear with its innovative approach to design and performance.

The “Moonwalker” holds a unique place in the lineup, with its inspiration tied to Michael Jackson’s artistic legacy. This cultural connection gives the colorway an added layer of significance. Its re-release offers an opportunity for new and long-time fans alike to experience a piece of sneaker history.

The original Kobe 9 Elite Low made waves for its groundbreaking features, including a Flyknit upper, Lunarlon cushioning, and a low-profile silhouette that offered unparalleled flexibility and support. The Protro update is expected to retain these core design elements. It will also incorporate subtle improvements to meet the needs of today’s athletes.

One of the standout features of the “Moonwalker” is its ability to balance vibrant color with performance-driven functionality. This balance ensures the shoe appeals to collectors, basketball players, and fans of innovative design.

Although Nike Basketball has yet to officially confirm the “Moonwalker” Protro release. Reports indicate that it will drop on July 12, 2025. Retailing for $210 USD, the shoe is expected to be available through Nike SNKRS and select retailers. Fans are eagerly awaiting more details, including a first look at the updated design.
