Nike is set to release the Nike Book 1 Black Label on February 14, 2025, during the NBA All-Star Weekend. This exclusive edition is limited to 1,996 pairs, a nod to Devin Booker’s birth year. The sneaker is part of Nike’s Black Label collection, a high-end series featuring signature models from top athletes, emphasizing premium materials, unique designs, and limited production.

Design

The Nike Book 1 Black Label features a black denim upper with frayed edges, giving it a distinct textured look. The Swoosh is outlined in Coconut Milk, providing subtle contrast against the monochromatic base. Unlike other Book 1 releases, this edition omits the book spine-inspired heel pull tab, aligning with the minimalist direction of the Black Label collection.

Nike integrates a Cushlon 2.0 midsole for a soft yet responsive feel, while a top-loaded Zoom Air unit in the heel enhances impact absorption. A rigid TPU sidewall reinforces lateral support, ensuring stability during quick directional changes. The black rubber outsole maintains a sleek look while delivering durability and traction on various surfaces.

The choice of black denim sets the IB3862-001 edition apart from standard basketball sneakers, introducing a lifestyle element without compromising performance. The material’s frayed edges add a rugged aesthetic, contrasting the polished details seen in other Nike signature releases.

Performance

The Nike Book 1 Black Label is designed to balance on-court functionality with everyday wearability. The Cushlon 2.0 midsole provides a smooth underfoot experience, offering the necessary comfort for extended use. The addition of Zoom Air in the heel ensures responsive energy return, making it ideal for players who rely on quick footwork and controlled landings.

The outsole is engineered for grip, with a pattern optimized for multidirectional movement. The absence of a pull tab contributes to a streamlined design while maintaining the structural integrity of the sneaker. The frayed denim upper, while unconventional for basketball performance, remains flexible and durable enough for high-intensity play.

Nike Black Label Collection

Nike’s Black Label collection represents the brand’s most exclusive basketball releases, highlighting craftsmanship and rarity. Each sneaker in the series is produced in limited quantities based on the athlete’s birth year. This year’s Black Label lineup includes the LeBron 22, Sabrina 2, Giannis Freak 6, Ja 2, Book 1, KD 18, GT Cut 3 Turbo, GT Hustle 3, and a Swarovski-embellished edition of the Ja 2.

The LeBron 22 Black Label features faux crocodile-textured leather and pony hair overlays, finished with metallic gold details. The Sabrina 2 includes a chainlink mesh upper and chenille overlays, emphasizing a blend of breathability and texture. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Freak 6 Black Label adopts a black and Coconut Milk color scheme with premium materials. The Ja 2 Black Label takes an unexpected turn with Swarovski crystal embellishments, bringing a luxury twist to Morant’s signature line.

Each sneaker in the collection incorporates high-quality materials and design elements that separate them from standard releases.

Devin Booker and Nike Collaboration

Devin Booker has been a Nike athlete throughout his career, officially joining the brand’s roster of signature athletes in 2023. His first signature sneaker, the Nike Book 1, draws from classic Nike silhouettes such as the Air Force 1, Blazer, and Air Jordan 1. The design merges elements of heritage footwear with modern performance features.

Since its launch, the Book 1 has been released in multiple colorways, many inspired by Booker’s personal style and interests. Previous editions have drawn from his love of vintage cars, desert landscapes, and minimalist aesthetics. The Nike Black Label edition shifts towards a refined, monochrome execution, maintaining the shoe’s core DNA while offering a fresh take.

SNEAKERS

In 2025, Devin Booker became the Phoenix Suns’ all-time leading scorer, surpassing Walter Davis’s record of 15,666 points.  Booker was also a key player for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, contributing significantly to the team’s gold medal run. His defensive intensity and scoring ability were crucial in high-pressure moments, earning praise from coach Steve Kerr. Beyond international play, he remains a fixture in NBA All-Star Weekend, with multiple appearances.

The Nike Book 1 Black Label offers a refined take on Devin Booker’s signature shoe, combining high-quality materials with a performance-driven design. As part of Nike’s exclusive Black Label collection, it joins a lineup of limited-edition sneakers designed for both collectors and athletes. With only 1,996 pairs available, the demand for this release is expected to be high when it launches on February 14, 2025, through Nike and select retailers.
