Nike is releasing a new edition of the Ja 2 sneaker that draws direct inspiration from Ja Morant’s time at Murray State University. The colorway and construction of the shoe reflect Morant’s early basketball career and personal connection to the institution that helped launch him into the national spotlight. Set to arrive on April 18, 2025, the release introduces a clean, detail-focused design that brings together school pride and on-court performance.
The upper features breathable white mesh, creating a lightweight foundation for the build. Around the midsole, a gradient finish shifts from gold into white, with the gold referencing the Murray State Racers’ team colors. Additional navy blue accents on the collar and heel add visual balance, while the chenille-textured Swoosh on each side draws from the look and feel of varsity letter patches. This choice evokes classic college sportswear and connects directly to Morant’s collegiate experience.
A closer look at the heel reveals “12 AM” printed just above the midsole – a phrase often used by Morant that reflects his late-night workouts and mindset toward preparation. His personal logo, a stylized “JA,” appears on the tongue in navy blue. These details contribute to a design that carries both technical elements and personal significance.
On the performance side, the Ja 2 incorporates Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot. This setup provides responsive energy return for fast-paced play.
