At Milan Design Week 2025, celebrated filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar steps into the world of interior design with Cromática, a collaborative collection created in partnership with French furniture house Roche Bobois. Known for his rich narratives and vivid use of color, Almodóvar brings his cinematic language to life through a series of limited-edition furniture pieces, rugs, and accessories. The project reflects the director’s unique visual storytelling, merging the language of film with the textures and forms of design.

DESIGN

A centerpiece of the collection is the reimagined Lounge modular sofa, originally designed by Hans Hopfer in 1971. Almodóvar reinterprets it as a visual archive of his iconic filmography. Upholstered in custom fabrics featuring images and posters from classics like Volver, Talk to Her, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, the sofa is released in a limited edition of just 50 numbered and signed pieces.

Color, long a shared language between Almodóvar and Roche Bobois, serves as the foundation of Cromática. From reds to deep blues, the collection draws directly from Almodóvar’s film palettes. The partnership also includes contributions from Rossy de Palma, longtime muse to the director and a visual artist in her own right, who designed a capsule range of accessories. Her pieces translate femininity and theatricality into objects like vanity mirrors shaped like eyes, vases inspired by Spanish fans, and lighting drawn from the traditional peineta hair comb.

Rounding out the collection are new editions of the Pepa tables by Maurizio Manzoni, finished in bold colors selected by Almodóvar, and the Pedro cocktail table, topped with one of the director’s own photographs. The Rondo china unit showcases film poster prints and another of Almodóvar’s personal images, transforming a functional item into a curated exhibit. Meanwhile, a trio of rugs references the director’s opening credit sequences, including El Deseo, styled to resemble a camera viewfinder.

For Roche Bobois, this collaboration represents a true first: a filmmaker directing a full design narrative with such precision and creative authority. Yet the partnership feels natural. Both Almodóvar and the brand share a devotion to color as an emotional and structural element. They speak fluently in bold lines and rich contrasts, constructing stories through pattern and space as much as plot or dialogue.

The collaboration with Roche Bobois reimagines Almodóvar’s visual world in physical form, inviting audiences not only to watch his work, but to sit with it, live within it, and experience the colors and characters up close.
