BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE will introduce a new series called MEOW this July. This latest release brings a sense of humor and imagination to the brand’s signature geometric construction. Each piece in the MEOW series can transform into a playful, cat-inspired shape through folding and structure.
The series incorporates triangle-shaped elements that resemble feline ears and eyes, along with an attached tail. Its three-dimensional structure relies on an accordion-like mechanism that gives the design dynamic form and visual texture. When expanded, the bags reveal movement and shape that separate them from previous BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE offerings.

Lenticular pieces serve as eyes on the surface of each item. These components shift side to side when viewed from different angles, creating the effect of a cat glancing around. This feature adds personality and humor to each item in the series, reinforcing the MEOW name and its animated concept.
The promotional video for the collection matches the visual style of the pieces with playful energy. Set to upbeat music, the clip features the bags twisting, folding, and transforming, accompanied by meowing sounds. These animations reinforce the design’s character while giving the bags life and movement through stop-motion-like transitions.

Each piece in the MEOW series serves multiple purposes. It can function as a traditional bag, but its shape also allows it to be displayed as an object or used as a charm. This versatility positions MEOW between product and sculpture, offering both utility and decorative function.
The MEOW series will be available in four colorways. One of these includes a black-and-white design that directly references the appearance of a cat. The other options maintain the playful concept while offering variations in tone and contrast.

BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE continues to experiment with geometry, movement, and transformation. The MEOW series introduces a lighthearted approach to these principles by turning structural design into character-driven form. Through folding, material choice, and animation, the bags go beyond simple accessories and take on a sense of presence.
