MCM Presents Taekwondo-Inspired Spring Summer 2026 Collection

Dirk Schönberger reimagines martial arts codes through sculptural dresses, sharp tailoring, and dynamic material play

MCM unveiled its Spring Summer 2026 collection in Milan with a presentation built on the discipline and energy of Taekwondo. Casa degli Artisti served as the stage transformed into MCM: THE Art of Motion, an environment conceived as a design dojo where motion guided both clothing and space. As the brand moves toward its 50th anniversary in 2026, this season emphasized the link between control, respect, and freedom of motion.

SPRING SUMMER 2026 WOMENSWEAR

Dirk Schönberger, Chief Brand Officer, created the collection with a focus on translating martial principles into sculptural silhouettes. Oversized martial arts belts were transformed into a strapless dress, their folds creating a structured form around the body. A bright blue judo knot anchored a mini dress, its sculptural construction turning restraint into form. Precision entered through a uniform composed of a vest, crisp shirt, and pleated balloon trousers, while a quilted bomber jacket combined broad shoulders with a defined waist. A boxy white jacket stitched from judo belts reinforced the martial codes, while a double-breasted blazer closed with a knot introduced the authority of dojo masters.

Schönberger described the project as an exploration of movement in multiple dimensions: physical, cultural, and emotional. He emphasized how Taekwondo’s philosophy informed the balance of the collection and how motion shapes identity. Each piece carried this idea by reinterpreting martial discipline into contemporary fashion codes.

The choice of materials supported this narrative of active design. Cotton judo fabrics, durable canvas, and wool gave the pieces resilience, while jersey offered flexibility for dresses and vests. These fabrics worked with the body, enabling each garment to extend movement rather than restrict it.

The staging expanded the narrative. In collaboration with Capsa Studio, MCM introduced an AI hologram inspired by Taekwondo, placing technology at the center of the immersive environment.

MCM’s Milan presentation showed how the language of martial arts can serve as a foundation for experimentation. Sculptural construction, disciplined tailoring, and performance-ready fabrics created a collection that fuses strength and fluidity.
