Converse introduces the SHAI 001 Clean Slate, an all-white colorway of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s first signature basketball sneaker. The monochrome execution removes contrast and visual emphasis, allowing the shoe’s design, materials, and construction to read clearly.

The SHAI 001 is built on a low, compact profile designed to stay close to the floor. Its sculpted upper follows the foot with controlled curvature, creating a contained shape without excess volume. A zippered shroud covers the lace system, tightening the overall profile and reinforcing midfoot lockdown. In the “Clean Slate” finish, the uninterrupted surface makes the geometry easy to read, exposing how the shoe is constructed.
The upper combines molded structural elements with padded zones that support the foot while allowing necessary flex. Surface treatments remain smooth and consistent, with subtle texture changes indicating functional areas. The all-white finish emphasizes these transitions, making material behavior visible through form.
Underfoot, the SHAI 001 focuses on responsiveness and stability. A forefoot Zoom Air unit delivers quick energy return, supporting controlled acceleration, abrupt stops, and lateral movement. The over-lasted midsole keeps the foot close to the court, improving balance and ground feel. The outsole uses a radial traction pattern designed for multi-directional grip, supporting sharp changes of direction.
The SHAI 001 follows several years of collaboration between Converse and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, which began when Shai signed with Converse early in his NBA career. Over time, his role expanded beyond wearing the brand on court to participating in the development of Converse’s basketball products. In 2024, Converse formalized that involvement by naming Shai Creative Director of Converse Basketball, giving him direct input on design direction, performance priorities, and product development. The SHAI 001 is the first signature sneaker produced under that structure and the first model built specifically around his preferences for fit, court feel, and movement.
