New Balance continues its run of technical runners with the 1906A “Reflection/Shadow Grey,” a new take on the 1906 silhouette that leans into deconstruction, asymmetry, and layered construction. The model builds on the chunky runner language that has shaped the sneaker market over the past few years, while giving the 1906 line a more experimental edge.

The 1906A follows the wider momentum around the 1906R and the “Protection Pack,” yet it pushes the upper in a more irregular direction. New Balance starts with classic open-holed mesh, giving the shoe the breathable foundation expected from a performance-inspired runner. Across that base, curvilinear synthetic overlays create a dense, technical structure. The lines appear layered and slightly raw, giving the sneaker a deconstructed look without losing the organized feel of the 1906 family.
Grey tones cover most of the upper, allowing the different textures and panel shapes to remain visible without overwhelming the silhouette. The palette gives the shoe flexibility for everyday styling, while still carrying enough depth to suit the more complex construction. Small hits of NB Navy add contrast across the design and draw attention to the panel work.
New Balance uses the 1906A to balance lifestyle design with familiar running technology. While the upper takes a more experimental route, the sole unit stays close to the brand’s performance-driven systems. The model draws from elements associated with popular related silhouettes, including the 2002R and the 860v2, giving the shoe a foundation that many New Balance fans already recognize.
The sneaker uses an ACTEVA LITE midsole, which runs the full length of the shoe and supports a flexible underfoot feel. New Balance pairs it with an N-ergy outsole, designed for shock absorption. At the heel, segmented ABZORB SBS pods add further cushioning, while a rigid TPU heel cage gives the rear section more structure and support.
The New Balance 1906A “Reflection/Shadow Grey” will release through select global retailers and online in the coming weeks. The sneaker will arrive in unisex sizing, with an expected retail price of approximately $170 USD.
