Every landscape carries its own tempo. On Lanzarote, volcanic formations, open horizons, and shifting light slow perception enough for every gesture to register with greater precision. That measured rhythm defines The Island Holds Still, DSCENE Magazine‘s latest fashion story featuring Teo Abihdana, photographed by Moïse Mbarga-Abega for the Design Under Pressure issue.

The editorial takes shape through the relationship between the body, clothing, light, and Lanzarote’s volcanic terrain. Abihdana appears against pale earth, open horizons, and dark geological formations that hold the visual field in a state of suspension. Mbarga-Abega avoids a conventional travel narrative and treats the island as an active element within the photographs. Its exposed surfaces establish scale, while its stillness gives each look space to register.
Juan Areizaga led the art direction, developing a visual language that responds to the central theme of the issue without illustrating pressure through obvious tension. Instead, the story turns toward restraint. The frame carries very little excess information. Distance narrows, the horizon loses its usual separation from the ground, and Abihdana’s presence offers the clearest point of orientation.
Light falls without urgency across the editorial. It flattens depth and reduces the island to planes of stone, sand, sky, and shadow. At times, the body reads less as a central subject and more as a measure of the surrounding silence. The photographs hold their compositions long enough for small changes in posture, fabric, and surface to carry weight.
Design Under Pressure examines the strain placed on creative work when attention never fully stops. The issue considers the demand to keep producing, maintain visibility, respond to expectation, and preserve the part of a practice that still belongs to its maker. Across fashion, film, design, and public life, each cover story approaches that condition from a different direction.
The Island Holds Still addresses pressure through pause. Lanzarote offers a setting shaped by force, yet its current appearance communicates calm. Its volcanic ground records previous rupture without turning the images into a study of drama. This tension gives the cover story its structure. The terrain carries evidence of transformation while the photographs remain controlled, spare, and physically grounded.
Stylist Sanya Batra builds the wardrobe through layered proportions and precise changes in volume. Tailored pieces meet softer constructions, while long lines respond to the openness of the location. The clothes maintain their individual identities without interrupting the editorial’s visual rhythm. Their textures draw attention to the differences between polished fabric, compact tailoring, loose draping, and the island’s rough surfaces.
Abihdana carries the story through controlled posture and a steady relationship with the camera. His performance avoids exaggerated gesture. A turn of the shoulder, the placement of the hands, or a direct gaze provides enough change to shift the tone of an image. This restraint supports the larger idea of the cover story: pressure does not always appear through visible force. It can surface through expectation, endurance, control, and the discipline required to remain still.
