Tommy Hilfiger Returns to His Nautical Roots at NYFW Spring 25

Set aboard the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry, the collection blends maritime elements with modern urban influences

Tommy Hilfiger Spring 25 show took place aboard the decommissioned MV John F. Kennedy, the former Staten Island Ferry, as the brand returned to its nautical roots. Set against the backdrop of Pier 17 at South Street Seaport, with views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, the event celebrated the recognizable red, white, and blue maritime codes that have long defined Hilfiger’s style.

The collection prominently featured classic nautical touches, with Breton and Ithaca stripes, regatta jackets, and lightweight materials like sail-cloth nylons and crinkled cottons. Women’s capri pants in solid hues and oversized fisherman knits captured a sense of effortless coastal living. Tommy Hilfiger himself described the collection as one that brings “the ease of effortless summer style, but with a confidence that feels ready to step off the ferry and back into the city.” There was a sense of fluidity in the designs, with sporty club blazers, yacht shorts, and varsity jackets bridging the gap between prep and practical coastal wear.

However, despite its maritime theme, certain elements of the collection felt less aligned with the intended narrative. The introduction of bold plaid patterns, though visually striking, seemed at odds with the nautical inspiration. Plaid felt somewhat disjointed when placed alongside the otherwise sailing-inspired designs. Its prominence in the collection diverted from the clear nautical story and introduced a mix of motifs that muddied the overarching theme. Another element that contributed to this disconnect was the use of raffia baseball caps featuring a chunky rope TH monogram. While these pieces added a contemporary streetwear vibe, they clashed with the coastal and preppy aesthetics that were at the heart of the collection.

The front row was filled with notable figures, including Stray Kids‘ Felix and Lee Know, BLACKPINK‘s Jisoo, and actor Damson Idris, while model Abby Champion walked the runway to the applause of her fiancé Patrick Schwarzenegger. Staten Island’s own Wu-Tang Clan members Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Raekwon delivered a live performance for the finale, adding a local connection to the setting. Questlove curated the show’s soundtrack, contributing a mix of classic and contemporary tracks.
