Kunihiko Morinaga’s ANREALAGE SS25 collection, titled “WIND,” explores the interplay between fashion and technology while posing a thought-provoking question: What does wind look like? With this collection, Morinaga contemplates the transformative power of air in fashion, utilizing its natural movement to create new silhouettes and bring garments to life. The collection invites audiences to reconsider the art of dressing—and undressing—by harnessing the invisible yet influential force of wind.

This season, Morinaga introduces a concept of ‘cool-wear’ designed to combat the increasingly hot summers in Japan and beyond. In collaboration with KUCHOFUKU, a pioneer in fan-equipped, air-conditioned garments, the collection features pieces made from an innovative, airtight material. This specially developed nylon fabric is exceptionally lightweight, weighing just 23 grams per square meter, and is woven from threads thinner than a human hair. The result is a wardrobe that not only refreshes but also protects, making it a practical solution for rising temperatures.

A standout feature of the collection is the incorporation of tiny embedded fans that inflate garments at the click of a button, allowing for dynamic and whimsical silhouettes. The dresses and jackets take on extraordinary forms reminiscent of otherworldly creatures, evoking the playful nature of wind. For instance, windbreaker jackets showcase bold color-blocking, serving both as a protective layer against the elements and as a means to contain the WIND. The transformative aspect of these garments is evident as they morph from flat pieces into three-dimensional shapes, creating a visual spectacle on the runway.

The collection also explores formal attire through unexpected materials like windproof organza and bonded tweed. These pieces defy traditional design, inflating into striking full forms or elegantly draping to the ground, guided by gravity. The use of Kyocera’s FOREARTH sustainable inkjet printing technology adds an additional layer of artistry, featuring vibrant abstract motifs that evolve as the models move, mimicking the fluidity of petals carried by the wind.

Morinaga’s vision for ANREALAGE goes beyond aesthetics; it aims to address the pressing challenges of contemporary life while blending joy with innovative solutions. The collection strikes a balance between the surreal and the practical, showcasing how clothing can adapt to environmental changes while still evoking a sense of wonder. Through his work, Morinaga invites us into a world where the real and unreal coexist, propelled by the unpredictable nature of wind.

The soundscape of the show is curated by JAKOPS, CEO and Executive Producer of XGALX. His contribution enhances the atmosphere, creating an immersive experience that complements Morinaga’s designs. The combination of avant-garde fashion and innovative sound production sets the stage for a memorable collection.
