HBO has unveiled the first images for its highly anticipated horror series IT: Welcome to Derry, set to premiere in 2025. The series, developed by IT filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti alongside screenwriter Jason Fuchs, explores the eerie backdrop of Derry, Maine, before the events of Stephen King’s classic novel.

Returning to terrify audiences, Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as Pennywise, the nightmarish clown at the heart of IT. The prequel will explore Pennywise’s origins and the chilling history of Derry, taking place in the 1960s and building on the legacy of the 2017 and 2019 IT films. Skarsgård is joined by an ensemble cast that includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
Production began in Toronto and other Canadian locations in May 2023 and wrapped in August after a brief pause due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Notably, Andy Muschietti will direct multiple episodes, including the pilot, ensuring continuity with the previous IT films. The nine-episode series promises to transport fans back to the haunting atmosphere of Derry, offering new insights into the terrifying Pennywise mythos.
