Just one day after presenting a deeply personal Cruise 2026 collection in Rome, Christian Dior Couture has officially announced that Maria Grazia Chiuri will leave her position as Creative Director of women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear, and accessories. The show, titled The Beautiful Confusion, had already stirred speculation with its quiet, emotionally charged tone. Today, Dior confirmed what many suspected, this chapter has come to a close.

Chiuri joined Dior in 2016 as the first woman to helm the brand’s women’s collections. Over the course of nine years, she introduced a feminist lens that reshaped Dior’s narrative, bringing feminist texts to the runway, working closely with female artists and writers, and forging collaborations with artisans around the globe. Her tenure saw Dior’s sales multiply and its cultural presence sharpen.

In a statement issued this morning, Delphine Arnault, Chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, thanked Chiuri for her “exceptional creativity” and for leading Dior with a “feminist perspective… imbued with the spirit of Monsieur Dior.” Chiuri herself expressed pride in the work accomplished with her team and ateliers, calling the experience an “extraordinary opportunity” and emphasizing the generational dialogue she fostered through art and fashion.

The decision to show in Rome yesterday now feels even more significant. From the cinematic setting at a Roman villa to references to Fellini and Mimì Pecci-Blunt, the show felt like a poetic closure. Haute couture looks were shown alongside Cruise pieces, while the recently restored Teatro della Cometa, a personal project Chiuri completed with her daughter, underscored a deeper transition beyond fashion.

There was no curtain call, no farewell speech. Just Chiuri stepping briefly into candlelight as friends applauded. Now, with Dior’s confirmation, the silence speaks louder. A successor has not yet been named.
