Budapest’s rising appeal echoed in a hotel:

Budapest is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s most captivating destinations, an architectural and cultural treasure still flying under the radar compared to Paris or Rome. Yet, those who visit quickly discover a city that rewards curiosity, with grand boulevards, storied buildings, and a pulsing creative energy. Experiencing Budapest at its best means placing yourself at the heart of it all, in a property that doesn’t just offer a place to sleep but actively connects you to the city’s epic narrative. W Budapest, the city’s newest luxury hotel, does exactly that – honoring history, channeling local spirit, and delivering a stay that’s as memorable as the city itself.

An Iconic Address on Andrássy Avenue

Located on Andrássy Avenue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Budapest’s most glamorous boulevard, W Budapest occupies the historic Drechsler Palace. This building has played many roles over its lifetime, from luxury apartments to the home of the city’s ballet. After more than a decade of abandonment, its latest transformation is a masterclass in restoration and reinvention, with every detail – inside and out – paying tribute to the city’s architectural legacy. The hotel sits directly across from the newly restored Budapest Opera, a landmark as impressive as the Opera Garnier in Paris, providing guests with a daily reminder of the city’s grandeur.

Marriott Bonvoy’s Signature Blend

The W Budapest is part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio, bringing the brand’s signature blend of visionary design, playful sophistication, and world-class service to Hungary for the first time. The property features 151 stylish guestrooms, including 45 suites, each with a unique design narrative. The fifth floor showcases a distinctive wooden-centric style that echoes the palace’s original roof, while the Extreme WOW and WOW suites are immersive homages to the ballet Swan Lake – one all-black, one all-white. Rooms and suites are designed with the contemporary sentiment, of comfortable yet functional design, yet every detail of the room respects the building’s historic role and the city itself.

Design That Honors Budapest’s Heritage

Design throughout the hotel is bold yet deeply respectful of local tradition. Interior architects Bowler James Brindley (London) and Bánáti + Hartvig (Hungary) have woven together the building’s rich history and the city’s French Renaissance influences, creating a space that feels both timeless and contemporary. Expect to find Zsolnay-inspired tiles, stained glass, and jewelry-like lighting, alongside playful nods to Hungary’s love of chess and its world-famous ballet. Mirrors and clever lighting create optical illusions in tribute to Budapest’s own Harry Houdini, while touches of Hollywood glamour recall Zsa Zsa Gabor. As an architect myself, soaking in the architecture of the property would take me days, if not weeks – it is always encouraging discovering a newly renovated project where architects have respected every detailed with love and attention.

A Living Expression of the City’s DNA

What truly sets W Budapest apart is how it integrates the city’s DNA into every guest experience. Nowhere is this more evident than in the hotel’s AWAY® Spa and WET® pool. The pool is not just a place to swim, it’s a modern, luxurious homage to Budapest’s famed bathhouses, with traditional tiles and gold mesh details that evoke the city’s thermal heritage. Tucked next to the hotel’s hidden speakeasy, Society25, this space is both a sanctuary and a celebration of Budapest’s after-dark culture. Society25 itself channels the city’s tradition of secret societies and creative salons, offering an intimate, atmospheric spot for cocktails inspired by local legends and eras.

The Heartbeat of Sziget Festival

During our stay, the hotel became a hub for the city’s most exciting event: the globally renowned Sziget Festival. With headliners like Charli XCX, FKA Twigs, Shawn Mendes, Anyma, Chapelle Roan, Nelly Furtado, Kid Cudi, and Sevdaliza, Sziget brings together music lovers from across the world. W Budapest looked like the unofficial festival headquarters, with artists (even a couple of the A-list headliners), guests, and festivalgoers mingling over breakfast and late-night drinks. It’s this seamless blend of international energy and local flavor that defines the W experience.

Service with a Personal Touch

Service at W Budapest is exemplary, with an international, English-speaking staff that is as friendly as they are knowledgeable. The team is young, energetic, and ready to assist with everything from insider tips on Budapest’s hidden gems to last-minute festival tickets. Their enthusiasm and professionalism make every guest feel welcome and at home. Whether we needed tips on the Sziget festival or city itself, they were always ready to help.

Breakfast and Bar with a View at W Budapest

Breakfast at W Budapest is a highlight, served under the building’s grand arches with sweeping views of the Budapest Opera. The spread is both generous and refined, featuring local specialties and international favorites, perfect for fueling a day of exploration. In the evening, the same space transforms into a stylish bar – W Lounge, where guests can enjoy expertly crafted cocktails or a glass of Hungarian wine while soaking in the city’s atmosphere, both outdoors and indoors.

Central Location for the Ultimate Budapest Experience

The hotel’s location is unbeatable for anyone wanting to truly experience Budapest. Staying central is essential in a city where history, art, and nightlife are woven into every street. From W Budapest, you’re steps away from the Opera, luxury boutiques, vibrant cafés, and some of the city’s most iconic sights. The hotel’s meeting and event spaces, like the Great Room and Studio Rooms, are ideal for both celebrations and business gatherings, making it a versatile choice for leisure and work.
