AZULIK and the Art of Barefoot Living

Where architecture, ritual, and landscape slip out of time.

Set between the Caribbean Sea and the dense jungle of the Yucatán Peninsula, AZULIK presents itself as a lived environment shaped by instinct, ritual, and architecture that resists straight lines and predictable logic. The property invites guests to disengage from speed and structure, replacing them with sensory awareness and a heightened relationship to place.

HOTELS

Conceived by Eduardo Roth, AZULIK follows an architectural language that feels grown rather than built. Elevated walkways weave through mangroves and trees, while villas rise organically from the ground using natural materials and handcrafted techniques. Nothing feels standardized. The entire property is a continuous structure, folding into its surroundings.

The 48 seafront villas function as private sanctuaries. Each suite carries its own layout and mood, shaped by palm-leaf roofs, timber furnishings, handmade tile bathtubs, and wide terraces that open directly to the elements. Electricity remains intentionally absent from guest rooms, encouraging a slower rhythm defined by daylight, candlelight, and the sounds of wind and water. The experience leans inward, asking guests to pause rather than consume.

Culinary spaces at AZULIK operate as extensions of its philosophy. The newest addition, ITALIK, brings a contemporary trattoria approach rooted in Italian family traditions, opening in May 2025. Focused on gathering, balance, and Mediterranean dietary principles, the restaurant centers fresh pasta and high-quality ingredients in a setting that values time at the table as much as the food itself. Elevated among the trees, Kin Toh offers a chef-led interpretation of Mexican cuisine grounded in Mayan heritage, with dishes that explore local ingredients and ancestral techniques from a modern vantage point.

Elsewhere, Tseen Ja introduces Japanese influences through a ceremonial lens, pairing nigiri, sashimi, and miso-based dishes with subtle references to Mexico and beyond. On the beach, Imix adopts a more relaxed pace, with open-fire cooking, seafood-forward menus, and cocktails designed for long afternoons by the sea. Mantli completes the gastronomic experience with a ritual approach to mezcal, honoring its Oaxacan origins through guided tastings that emphasize origin, process, and respect.

Wellbeing sits at the core of AZULIK’s identity. The House of Ancestral Medicine anchors the hotel’s holistic approach, offering non-invasive rituals such as cacao ceremonies and temazcal intended to recalibrate body and mind. The Maya Spa expands this offering with massages and therapeutic practices rooted in reflexology and traditional techniques, supported by yoga and meditation sessions. Elixik complements these practices through nutrition, serving superfood-based breakfasts and lunches designed to support energy, detoxification, and daily balance.

Art, fashion, and design remain inseparable from the experience. The ANÍKENA boutique curates garments and objects rooted in ethical production and craftsmanship, framing fashion as a cultural dialogue rather than a seasonal cycle. Beyond the hotel itself, AZULIK Uh May extends this vision into the jungle. Located near the village of Francisco Uh May, the City of Arts houses SFER IK Uh May and Jungle Cuisine, where biomorphic architecture, immersive installations, and food-as-medicine converge into a multidisciplinary environment focused on co-creation and ecological awareness.

AZULIK offers a destination shaped by intuition, ancestry, and experimentation, where architecture, food, art, and wellness exist as one continuous experience. Staying at AZULIK feels less like visiting a place and more like entering a temporary state of being.
