Jordan Brand sets the Air Jordan 1 High OG Love Letter for an August 1 release, giving the AJ1 a design tied to Michael Jordan’s farewell message to basketball. The sneaker takes its name from the letter Jordan wrote to the game after his final retirement, which closed with the words “Much Love and Respect.”
SNEAKERS
The new AJ1 High OG Love Letter keeps the focus on material, wear, and memory. Jordan Brand gives the silhouette a nubuck leather and soft suede design, creating a surface that will change with each wear. The materials will develop a patina over time, giving the sneaker a lived-in character. That detail connects the shoe to the idea of devotion, grit, and heart for the hardwood, all themes linked to MJ’s closing words.

Jordan Brand uses the phrase “Much Love and Respect” as a direct design detail. The words appear on the collar and the hang tag. The reference leads back to 2003, when Jordan ended his playing career with the Washington Wizards. His final NBA game came on April 16, against the Philadelphia 76ers. Through the Air Jordan 1 High OG, a silhouette first tied to his rookie-era rise in 1985, the release connects the beginning of Jordan’s sneaker history with the final chapter of his time on court.

The patina effect gives the design its strongest material idea. As the nubuck leather and soft suede change with use, the sneaker gains a surface shaped by time and wear. Jordan Brand connects that change to the way true love can grow deeper over time, using the shoe itself as the place where that idea appears.
The adult Air Jordan 1 High OG “Love Letter” launches alongside big kids, little kids, and toddler versions. The adult pair retails for $185, big kids for $140, little kids for $85, and toddler sizing for $70. The release arrives on August 1st.
