Zara Home is preparing a large-scale collaboration with filmmaker Luca Guadagnino and production designer Stefano Baisi, bringing furniture, decorative objects and clothing into a collection of approximately 140 pieces. Named Baisi Guadagnino, the project will debut during Milan Fashion Week and introduces 65 furniture and homeware pieces alongside 75 fashion items.

DESIGN

The collection places interior design at its foundation. Guadagnino and Baisi began with an unrealized table prototype defined by curved lines, which informed a broader selection that includes seating, tables, shelving, lighting, mirrors, tableware and smaller domestic objects. Zara Home managing director Lorena Mosquera described the collaboration to the Financial Times as a complete environment connecting furniture, lighting, accessories and fashion.

Several substantial furniture designs establish the project’s scale. The selection includes sofas, armchairs, stainless-steel chairs and stools, side tables combining glossy lacquer with matte oak, and rectangular travertine mirrors. Floral rugs draw from paintings by Francesco Snote, while smaller products include cutlery, candles, plates and glasses.

The clothing component extends the same creative project into the wardrobe. Early pieces include leather jackets, checked shirts, white shirts, printed garments, viscose dresses and sequined designs. The overall assortment allows Baisi and Guadagnino to approach clothing and interiors as parts of one design project instead of treating the fashion element as an isolated capsule.

Materials play a significant role in the furniture. Stainless steel creates sharper forms in several seating designs, while walnut, leather, wool flannel, lacquer, oak and travertine introduce different surfaces and weights. Guadagnino told the Financial Times that the designers explored ways of bending rigid structures to produce sensual forms.

Guadagnino and Baisi drew from a wide group of cultural references while developing the collection. Their research included Italian designer Gio Ponti, Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi and Ettore Sottsass, alongside filmmakers Jean-Luc Godard, Edward Yang and Nagisa Oshima. The designers used those references as sources for research while pursuing an independent visual language for the final products.

The collaboration continues an existing relationship between Guadagnino and Zara Home. Guadagnino previously created a short film for the company in 2021, and Mosquera told the Financial Times that the new partnership developed naturally from that earlier project.

Guadagnino and Baisi also share an established professional history. They first worked together on the renovation of Yoox founder Federico Marchetti’s Lake Como villa and founded Studiolucaguadagnino in 2017. Their subsequent work has included interiors for shops and hotels in Europe, while Baisi has worked as production designer on Guadagnino projects including Queer and After the Hunt.

A promotional film accompanies the Zara Home project, extending Guadagnino’s filmmaking practice into the presentation of the collection. Shot in Budapest, the film features a cast that includes Jamie Bell and Patricia Arquette.
