Vans and SZA introduce VANSZA Drop 1, a footwear and apparel collection that draws inspiration from the natural world and the artist’s personal approach to style. The release continues their creative partnership with designs that prioritize comfort, individual expression, and everyday functionality. Through distinctive footwear silhouettes, customized details, and outdoor-inspired clothing, SZA brings her preferences into familiar Vans designs.

The collection takes shape around SZA’s interest in practical footwear, particularly shoes that allow the wearer to slip them on without adjusting the heel. This preference guides the development of two central styles, the VANSZA Knu Skool Mule and VANSZA Authentic Kickdown. Both designs reinterpret recognizable Vans silhouettes through personal references and details that address how SZA likes to wear her shoes.

“I love a mule and I love a slide-on. So I needed everything to be slide-on-able. My mom has been telling me, ‘Please stop stepping on the back of your shoes’ my whole life. She hates it. So I put the design aspect in my shoes. I created a step-down shoe, and then I took the whole back off the Knu Skool because, why not? Less effort. More fun. More accessibility. More comfort. More color,” SZA explains.
Her approach gives the footwear a practical foundation while introducing an element of humor. The Knu Skool Mule removes the traditional heel structure, transforming the familiar silhouette into an open-back design. SZA’s preference for slip-on footwear directly informs this adjustment, making comfort and accessibility central to the shoe’s construction.

The VANSZA Authentic Kickdown follows a similar idea through a collapsible heel that allows wearers to switch between a conventional shoe and a slip-on style. Distressed canvas gives the design a worn-in appearance, while custom artwork by Sage Adams introduces an individual visual identity. These details connect the shoe’s functional purpose with the collection’s interest in customization and personal expression.
The apparel assortment extends SZA’s creative direction through vintage outdoor references and DIY-inspired details. Oversized outerwear draws from traditional workwear, while relaxed cargo silhouettes introduce a utilitarian approach to everyday dressing. Fish-inspired graphics bring humor into the collection, contributing to its eclectic character. Accessories continue the same direction, supporting a wardrobe that reflects SZA’s personal style and interest in unconventional design.
The accompanying campaign introduces four personalities from SZA’s creative circle. Vans Skate Team rider Zion Wright appears alongside models Caylee Blosenski and Isabella Carr, as well as Savannah Rowe, SZA’s niece.

Photographer India Sleem captures the campaign in California, using natural surroundings to reflect the collection’s outdoor references and sensory qualities. The photographs explore the relationship between the clothing, footwear, and environment, drawing attention to the textures and visual details that define Drop 1. Yudo Korita contributes product and environmental imagery, further developing the collection’s visual presentation.
With VANSZA Drop 1, SZA translates her everyday footwear habits and personal references into a collection that places comfort and customization at the center of its design. The assortment connects familiar Vans silhouettes with her interest in nature, utility, and individual style. The VANSZA Drop 1 collection launches October 22, 2026, at Vans retail locations and online.
