FALL WINTER 2017/18 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS
Harry Xu AW 2017 ‘Jarylo Reborn’ continues to explore the theme inspired by Michael Chelbin’s photography. This collection emphasises the psychological changes of these ‘youth prisoners’ as they step out of the prison for the first time in their lives. These individuals, who were born and raised in the dark comfort of prison, are finally allowed the luxury of realising their fantasies in a new world as adults. Symbolising this conflict between reality and fantasy, designs are focused on the gradual transformation from devil-may-care street teenagers, to mature men of society, all the while possessing an intrinsically fearless spirit and optimistic energy. Twisted braided ropes which are used as training tools for the ‘youth prisoners’ are the conceptual extension from Harry Xu’s graduate season. Exquisitely embroidered florals and whimsical chiffons have been developed to delicately soften imposing shapes – gently lifting the masculine silhouettes of the collection. – from Harry Xu
