Spring Summer 2018 Womenswear Collections
“As an interpretative homage to John Waters’s cult romance musical, Cry Baby, creative director Bill Gaytten has channeled a romance between star-crossed lovers—a veritable push-and-pull of tailleur and flou. With the film’s Drapes and Squares in mind, he proposes a buoyant intermingling of Teddy Boy suits and prom dresses in a sugary palette of pastels.
True to the atelier spirit of the Maison, updated details advance these looks beyond mere camp. A petal print silk chiffon is re-embroidered with floaty petals; full-skirt dresses are underpinned with metallic lurex for added edge; men’s shirts are enhanced with rakish, ruched plackets, while boxy jackets boast shawl collars of leopard; bias-cut dresses emerge from the boudoir; handsome frock coats evoke Galliano’s continued love affair with historicism.“
