FALL WINTER 2019.20 WOMENSWEAR
‘Kintsugi’, otherwise known as ‘golden joinery’ is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery, by using a goldlike glue to embrace the fractures, not to hide them. Strateas Carlucci explores this concept by linking the process with another art form, Collage, which was rooted in European Dadaism in the early years of the twentieth century. Collage allowed artists to interact with existing materials – anything from newspaper and magazines to maps, tickets and propaganda and photographs – to rip them apart and then reassemble them, creating visually dynamic hybrids. Kintsugi embraces a similar approach of allowing the use of repurposing a broken material, which otherwise would be consider damaged or destroyed. – from Strateas Carlucci
