British Vogue Magazine enlists nine African models Abény Nhial, Adut Akech, Akon Changkou, Amar Akway, Anok Yai, Janet Jumbo, Majesty Amare, Maty Fall, and Nyagua Ruea to star on the cover of their February 2022 edition. In charge of photography was Rafael Pavarotti, with styling from fashion editor Edward Enninful. Beauty is work of hair stylist Virginie Pinto Moreira, makeup artist Ammy Drammeh, and manicurist Pebbles Aikens. Set design by Ibby Njoya, with casting direction from Rosie Vogel, and production by Holmes Production. For the group cover all models are wearing selected looks from Balenciaga, and for her solo cover Adut Akech wears jacket and dress by Louis Vuitton and shoes by Gianvito Rossi.

I saw all these incredible models from across Africa who were just so vivacious and smart. These girls, re redefining what it is to be a fashion model. You know, fashion tends to follow waves. We’ve had the Brazilian wave. We had the Dutch wave, the Russian wave, the Eastern European wave… And while, in the last decade, the Black model has come to prominence, I love that we are finally giving more space to African beauty. – Edward Enninful, British Vogue’s editor-in-chief and European editorial director
