Fashion brand AREA presented the Collection 02 with a fashion film on February 13th during the New York Fashion Week. For this season, the brand explores the rich universe of showgirls in all its forms – from iconic figures such as Zizi Jeanmarie and Josephine Baker to cultural events translated through the lens of haute couture by exploring craftsmanship and showcasing craft, confidence & attitude. The brand created shapes that felt modern and abstract, and warp the perception of what a classic gown is. The rich textures are also presented through jeans, hot-pants and jackets for off-duty glamour.
We started to dissect various elements throughout history & culture and translating these into haute couture ranging from handwork and embroidery to construction and volume – these pieces are an elaborate labor of love crafted between New York, Italy and India. Firstly we started exploring the idea of feathers as one of the most recognizable visual elements of the showgirls. On one side feathers are soft having a light elegant movement but on the other hand big plumes can be seen as soft armor wrapping the body. – from AREA
