Following Glenn Martens’ sensational collection at the helm of Jean Paul Gaultier last season, the luxury fashion house has announced Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing as the maison’s next guest couturier.
“I’ve always been obsessed with and inspired by the Jean Paul Gaultier world,” said the designer, who often takes the inspiration from Gaultier’s signature padded shoulders, sailor uniforms, and corsets. The one-off collection is set to be unveiled in July, during couture week in Paris and will pay homage to Gaultier’s “glamour and sexiness”.
“I think he helped many people from my generation to feel free to be who they wanted to be. People need to remember who has been the pioneer at the time, to fight for what we’re fighting today.” – Olivier Rousteing.
