Fashion brand WE11DONE unveiled its Spring Summer 2023 Collection titled Rough Strokes, that fuses Édouard Manet’s ideology with punk sensibilities. The collection reimagines Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, masterpiece by French modernist painter Édouard Manet, with postmodernist twists. It embraces the romanticism of the 19th century, as well as rebellious spirit. For the season We11done is playing with contrasts: light wool outerwear paired with delicate lace bodysuits and stocking that highlight curves, pleated PVC skirts worn with distressed mohair knits and tailored jumpsuits with detachable biker jacket sleeves crafted from shrunken calfskin or vegan leather. Fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre captured the lookbook. In charge of styling was Olivier Rizzo, with casting direction from Ashley Brokaw, and production by One Thirty-Eight Productions. Beauty is work of hair stylist Anthony Turner, and makeup artist Lynsey Alexander. “In order to mimic the painterly qualities of Manet’s works, duchesse silk satin frocks and trousers, as well as bonded leather pieces, are manipulated to create a wave effect. Precision-cut separates have an all-over froissé evoking the look of crumpled parchment. The prints tell their own stories, whether in the form of floral and cheetah patterns on evening dresses, or a biker jacket trompe l’oeil-printed onto a minimalist top. The accessories warrant a closer inspection, too. Pleated leather heels and clutch pouches embellished with silk lace embroidery in tantalising hues carry on the allusion to Manet’s brushstrokes. While spiked heart-shaped jewellery and black leather stomper boots represent strength in dissent, the Touch bag, the season’s lingerie-inspired hero piece, continues the dual language of revolt and seduction.” – from WE11DONE
