Masterfully crafted by the talented duo, Laura and Deanna Fanning, this collection explores the esoteric world of design, evoking sentiments reminiscent of legendary figures like Sonia Delaunay and Sonia Rykiel.
Patchwork, often regarded as the heart of humble sewing traditions, has been reinterpreted in this collection as a pivotal device for a holistic approach to fashion design. From the mercurial interplay of changeante fabrics to the bold employment of steel cottons, there’s an unmistakable modern edge that melds seamlessly with time-honored techniques.
Oscillating between the tranquil pastel shades of ice pink and oyster grey and the audacious vibrancy of safety orange and cobalt, the palette embodies a jolie-laide (or ‘beautiful-ugly’) aesthetic. It’s a bold play of contrasts, a testament to the design’s embrace of both the delicate and the daring.
With garments that are as much about sensation as they are about appearance, the Fannings have presented pieces that envelop, cascade, and dance around the body. The use of ribbed Italian jerseys and pointelle knits adds an entrancing depth, while the optical illusions embedded within the designs make for a truly mesmerizing visual experience.
From zippers and buttons to tapes and bubbles, every detail in this collection has been meticulously thought out. The steel cotton trenches and viscose bombers, which unzip with a flourish from the clavicle, are particularly noteworthy.
