Fashion house Vivienne Westwood unveiled its Fall Winter 2023 Sibyl Bag with a campaign starring supermodel Sibyl Buck. The bag, inspired by Sibyl’s unique style and ethos, follows the principles of no-waste pattern cutting. The design, with its lizard-embossed finish, evokes a sense of timelessness and nostalgia, while the Burgundy colorway is a nod to Sibyl’s distinct hair color in the 1990s. The bag’s design combines exaggerated curved gussets with sharp corners.
In 1998, Sibyl took a bold step away from her modeling career to focus on community building and sustainable living. She leased a 5,000 sq. foot loft in Brooklyn, transforming it into a 10-bedroom loft community. This space was an artistic haven, complete with a recording studio, woodworking shop, industrial sewing machine room, a 20-foot rope swing, and multiple art studios. For Sibyl, this was a retreat from the fast-paced fashion world, a space where she could embrace child-like innocence and playfulness, which she describes as the heart of her vision.
Looking towards the future, Sibyl dreams of spending her final chapter in New Mexico, envisioning a life deeply intertwined with nature. Her aspiration is to build with the earth, utilizing natural resources like the sun and rain, and ultimately tucking back into the soil, leaving behind a legacy of music, art, and a life lived in harmony with nature.
Sibyl’s current endeavor is a communal permaculture goat farm located at the edge of a spring-fed creek in Los Angeles County. This farm serves as a model for rural and urban interface, emphasizing high-density sustainable living. It’s a community hub, offering workshops and a space for celebration.
